Nothing like circles and shadows

Answer revealed, scroll down comments for answer. Most creative answer: Bubs is back: Indian kalai porul made out of waste material on Doordarshan programmes like Manaimaatchi.

My favorite theme, I suppose.

Identify. I'm looking for a very specific answer, and will not reveal the final answer or award points till that specific answer is given. As with previous posts, the subject is commonly known.

3 guesses / person / day.

Hint: The small black dots and black lines are holes.

1. Tip of a ball point pen
2. Tip of a thumbtack (or something in that family of friendly-looking devils)
3. A worn-out needle of a safety pin

(But this pic looks very symmetric, which makes me think guess #1 has the best shot!)

A wide range of guesses as always, keep up the great work folks ! Remember, I'm not giving any hints on this one till a specific answer is reached.

And as before, the picture is digitally altered, but aspect ratios are preserved.

Probably something functional... like a stylus, a probe or a reader...
1. tip of a plotter (the kind of machine that polygraphs and all that)
2. an OCR/barcode reader tip maybe - but why would it need perforations...

A dirty car radial?

A old greedam (whats it called in English?)

It is something that is old and used. The double lines are worn out into a single line at many places. It is also very strange that the worn out line is always to the left on one side (while moving outwards from the center) and always to the right on the right side of the picture.

One possible explanation is a consistent flow of wind/water in one direction (from below in the picture).

>balaks: good guesses, don't read too much into the worn out lines. it's more to do with the angle of the shot and lightning than the object itself.

>muddian: good guesses on cane bamboo themes, but nope.

>sisyphus/muddian: internals of a pen .. hmm haven't quite checked that out, so i can't relate, but nope.

>senti, manoj, arun, archana: good guesses, but nope.

there is enough detail in the image to solve it. detail is the key word.

The structure does not look very rigid (notice that the outside circular structure is wrinkled a lot). The inner circle however seems rigid. Makes me think this structure is made of paper or cloth and has a wood or steel frame.

Things I can think of --
1. Umbrella
2. Tent (a circular one)
3. Pullayar chathurthi kudai.

I guess three guesses over for the day.

An alternate observation:

It looks like the inside of a thin long cylindrical structure. The lighting suggests the picture should be taken from the top right corner creating a bright spot (due to flash) in the bottom left and deep shadow in the extreme inner part of the cylinder.

I am not giving any guesses though since my three are over.

Wow, so many guesses in this new one, was out of station for the year-end vacation.
My first guess is going to be very normal, it is the pic of the inside of a dome from the bottom, possibly that of Capitol Hill in DC.
From your pbase gallery, I see you have visited DC and have taken pics of Capitol Hill, so wanted to give this guess a try :)

6 days is too long. I'm quite bored with all of your guesses (and mine). The answer - because of the number and variety of guesses so far - runs the risk of sounding terribly anti-climactic.

However, here are my guesses for the day...

1. Nipple of a full metal jacket
2. The pin end of an air-pump
3. One of those atomizer kind of tips used in these modern syringes

Actually your comment "the subject is commonly known" got me into thinking it is an object one comes across every once in a while, if not everyday...maybe your definition of commonly known is different :)
